UAE Golden Visa: Eligibility, Benefits & How to Apply

What Is a UAE Golden Visa?

Most people come to the UAE on a work visa tied to their job. Lose the job, and the visa goes too. The UAE golden visa fixes that. It gives you 5 or 10 years of residency with no employer, no sponsor, nothing holding it together except you.

Who Can Apply for a UAE Golden Visa?

The list is wider than most people expect. Real estate investors, public investors, entrepreneurs, skilled professionals, doctors, scientists, researchers, exceptional talents, outstanding students, graduates, and humanitarian workers all have a path in.

UAE Golden Visa Eligibility Criteria

Real Estate Investors

Property worth AED 2 million or more in the UAE. Some off-plan and mortgaged properties count too.

Public Investors

AED 2 million into an approved investment fund, or a commercial licence with capital of AED 2 million plus.

Entrepreneurs

An approved project worth at least AED 500,000, a letter from a UAE auditor, and a sign-off from the emirate that the project is genuinely innovative.

Skilled Professionals

Relevant degree, work contract in a priority sector, and a monthly salary of at least AED 30,000. Senior people earning AED 50,000 or more with five or more years behind them can go for the 10-year visa.

Doctors, Scientists and Specialists

Doctors need a practising licence and a health authority endorsement. Scientists need a PhD with solid published research or a master's from a top global university.

Outstanding Students and Graduates

95% or above in high school, or a university GPA of 3.5 or higher from a UAE or top-100 global university. Graduation has to be within the last two years.

Exceptional Talents

Artists, athletes, cultural figures, and humanitarian contributors. Each case needs the right authority's approval to move forward.

Benefits of the UAE Golden Visa

Here is what makes the golden visa benefits for UAE residents actually worth it.

  • 5 or 10 years of residency, renewable

  • No sponsor or employer is needed to keep it valid

  • Bring your spouse, kids, and sometimes parents too

  • Kids can be sponsored with no age limit in eligible cases

  • Stay abroad for long stretches, and your visa stays intact

  • No income tax, no capital gains tax, no inheritance tax

  • Passport copy

  • Passport photo

  • UAE visa copy if you are already here

  • Emirates ID, if you have one

  • Health insurance

  • Medical fitness test result

  • Proof of your investment, salary, property, or qualifications, depending on your category

How to Apply for a UAE Golden Visa

  1. Check Your Eligibility

Pick the right category first. Confirm your salary, investment, or qualifications actually meet the bar.

  2. Get Your Documents Ready

Collect everything and get foreign certificates attested and translated. (This is where most people slip up and lose weeks.)

  3. Submit Through Official Channels

Use ICP Smart Services or GDRFA Dubai. Approved typing centres can help. Some categories need a nomination before the main application goes in.

  4. Pay the Fees

Pay the government fees and hold onto the receipt. Medical and Emirates ID fees come separately.

  5. Do the Medical and Emirates ID Steps

Medical fitness test at an approved centre, biometrics, and the Emirates ID process. Straightforward, but it all has to be done in order.

  6. Track It

Check your application number on ICP or GDRFA. If they ask for more documents, reply fast.

  7. Get Your Visa

Residence permit issued, Emirates ID updated. Family sponsorship can start here if you qualify.

What Does It Cost?

  • Government fees: AED 1,150 to AED 3,000

  • Medical test: AED 150 to AED 700

  • Emirates ID and visa issuance fees

  • Health insurance: AED 400 to AED 3,000 a year

  • Translation or attestation if your documents are from abroad

  • Family sponsorship fee,s if needed

How Long Does It Take?

Depends on the category and how clean your paperwork is. Some investor visas wrap up in 7 to 10 business days. Others take 3 to 6 months. Wrong or missing documents are almost always the reason things drag.
